El Tigre Waterfalls Tour

The El Tigre Waterfalls area comprises about  60 hectares of mainly primary forest, located approximately 25 minutes from the hotels in Monteverde. 

In this beautiful forest, you have the chance to observe monkeys, snakes, peccaries, fascinating and colorful insects, and tropical birds, among other species. The site has  two trails and four beautiful waterfalls between 15 and 30 meters high, which you can visit on the approximately 3 hour, 5km walk. 

At times, the trail travels along natural stone paths, with an intermediate to high intensity at some points, but the rewards along the way are very much worth it, with the chance to appreciate the surrounding nature and clear your mind with the beautiful landscapes. 

If weather conditions allow it, you will be able to observe some volcanoes such as Arenal, Rincón de la Vieja, Tenorio, and Miravalles from a viewpoint, as well as some sectors of the province of Guanacaste and Lake Arenal. .

The initial hike is primarily downhill. To finish the tour, you can return on a 35-minute horseback ride with intermediate to advanced difficulty, an approximate 20-minute safari-style ride on a 4x4 vehicle. You can also walk back along a more direct trail of approximately 3 km.

 Important Notes: 

• We recommend packing a change of clothes, closed shoes suitable for walking, a poncho or raincoat, a reusable water bottle, and a camera for this tour
• This tour is ideal for children over 12 years old who have hiking experience, and adults that are in good physical condition.
• There is a zipline bike that is offered at an additional cost and requires a minimum height of 130 cm (4’3”). 
• The maximum recommended weight for the horseback portion of the tour is 250 pounds.
• Depending on the tour you select, lunch may be included.
• Encountering wildlife is not guaranteed. Exploring the reserve with your guide will give you the best chance to spot some of the many species that inhabit the cloud forest, but ultimately you are venturing into the natural habitat of wild animals, whose behavior is impossible to predict with certainty.
